If you are enrolled in an AICE course, it is imperative that you know the dates of your exams for the course before making any plans for trips, etc. Please keep in mind that sitting for the exam is embedded in the curriculum for most all AICE courses; therefore, a student must sit for the exam in order to fulfill the requirements of the course.  Cambridge does not allow late testing except in cases of extreme emergencies such as becoming ill during an exam or a death in the immediate family.  Cambridge will not allow make-up exams because a student attended an athletic competition.  A student who completes an AICE course but does not sit for the exam will be given credit for the next level course below AICE.  For example, an AICE Marine Science course would be changed to Marine Biology Honors.

About CIE
University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) is the world’s largest provider of international qualifications for 14-19 year olds. CIE’s broad range of qualifications is recognized by universities, education providers and employers across the globe.

What is AICE?
Advanced International Certificate of Education
The Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) is an advanced academic pre-university curriculum for students who are working towards Advanced (A) and Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level qualifications.

How do AICE examination grades compare with the U. S. grading scale?
Passing grades available on AICE exams range from A to E with A being the highest. Performance of students below the threshold of a CIE grade of E receives a grade of U, ungraded, which is not considered as passing. A Florida Department of Education AICE program study found that a CIE grade of E most closely correlated with an Advanced Placement exam grade of 3 and a U. S. grade of C.

Where is AICE accepted and recognized?
The qualifications within the AICE Program have a currency with strong levels of international recognition. University applicants are able to refer to their levels of achievement both in terms of the constituent parts, and demonstrate the breadth of their studies across three subject areas. Therefore, students following an AICE program score a double advantage – admissions tutors recognize the International A and AS Level gold standard, but also value a student’s breadth of study. Universities and other higher education institutes may have specific admission requirements for some courses and vary in the amount of credit given to AICE students so it is advisable to contact them directly for advice.

University of Cambridge International Examinations publishes a list on their website (go to www.cie.org.uk click on the ‘Recognition’ tab and then scroll down to the ‘Useful documents’ section) of US universities that have provided written statements of their AICE (which includes AS and A Levels) recognition policy. If a university admissions counselor is unfamiliar with AICE, it is suggested you ask to speak to the international admissions counselor. All public universities and community colleges in Florida award up to 30 hours of college credit for AICE exams passed.

Who can benefit from AICE?
Anyone planning to attend university or enter the world of business will benefit from studying this broad and balanced curriculum and the skills that they will gain from it.

Which AICE courses does NHS currently offer?
General Paper, Travel and Tourism, Latin, Marine Science, Physical Education (will satisfy personal fitness requirement), and Thinking Skills I, II are currently offered at NHS.
